Since launching my website, I’ve had time to edit my talk from 39c3, titled “Build your own (embedded) Linux distribution with Yocto” It’s what I work with in my professional life. Yocto was difficult at first, but it became easier over time, and I realized what a powerful tool it was.
I decided to submit a talk for 39c3. It was difficult to come up with a title and write a description. But I did it! A week later, I received an email saying my talk was rejected, which I didn’t mind. It was a bit scary to present on a big stage. Then, a colleague messaged me saying that we needed content for our assembly[1] and asked if I wanted to present it there. It would be improvised, but I agreed because starting with a smaller crowd is probably better.
On December 27, 2025, the first day of 39c3, my presentation was ready. I was a bit nervous, but it wasn’t that bad. I thought only a few people would show up, and that I would know most of them. As the start time of the talk approached, more and more people gathered around our assembly. In the end, around 25 people showed up, and I didn’t know most of them. It was also very loud, so it was difficult to be heard. We considered using a microphone and speaker, but they weren’t compatible. So a colleague tried to find a different speaker. I started without it and switched to it during the talk.
It was nice to see that many people were interested, and it was fun. If you want to watch the talk, I’ve published the video and presentation. You will definitely see that I was really nervous.
In the end, it was a great experience that I wouldn’t want to miss. I hope to do something similar again in the future, perhaps at another conference or on a different topic.
